Does your digestion influence the well-being of your Mind?

Have you ever thought that your intestinal microbiota actually influence your mood? Have you ever experienced a period of nervousness or irritability?

I’m talking about pretty basic things here, but it seems there are so many researches now on our gut health and nervous system and brain health, not only emotional stress or such, but also speaking about serious illnesses like Alzheimer and Parkinson.

I just had an observation of myself talking about this specific theme. I was having some bad moods and nervousness, I was very easily irritable and I was not eating too balanced of a diet but during the festive season, maybe even throughout all of December, who is actually following their normal dietary pattern?! Probably no one!

You eat more meat, more heavy food, especially in Latvia, all the tasty salads with mayo (believe me, they are so tasty!! but there are usually around 6 different ones during a Christmas dinner), of course you have lunch/dinner with friends before you leave for Christmas holidays, so it gets pretty heavy on the food!

An excellent read for 2020 – The Mind – Gut Connection!

I just got back to my normal regime, more plant-based, little meat, some fish, and because of some issues started taking some lactic acid bacteria for a week. It’s pretty surprising how much more calm and productive, less tired I feel. But really, mostly not being irritated about every single thing someone says or things happening around you is pretty darn amazing!

So pay attention to what you eat, and get a look at this fantastic book I’m reading about the mind and gut connection.
